I am an emerging artist from Warrnambool, Victoria. I love to paint people and I have a genuine sense of appreciation for the wonder and mystery of humanity. Whether itβs the feeling of loneliness and despair that can sometimes plague each one of us, or the joy of connecting at a party or in public spaces, my paintings are a celebration of all that is human. I'm interested in the stories that connect us, narratives that help us make sense of the world and discover meaning. In these increasingly polarised and atomised times the characters in my paintings remind us that we are more alike than we are different.
I'm inspired by a diverse range of artistic styles though I particularly love medieval, folk and naive art. I create my paintings by first imagining a scenario, a story, or a feeling. I look through old photos, art books, magazines or online images to help with the composition and form of my painting. Once I've got the initial composition on the canvas I work and reworks the painting, layering the paint, often scraping back and adding or removing elements until I have a piece I'm happy with.
