My name is Melbee and I am the artist behind Streets of Your Town Art. I love, love, love colour (I don't do beige) and I have, to put it mildly a full blown obsession with houses, buildings, caravans, suburbia and all things associated. The original plan was to be an architect - but upon realising how much maths was involved, that plan was immediately scrapped and I decided to paint the architecture instead!!!
I have lived all over Australia and overseas, and I quite often call on these memories for architectural inspiration, but for the past 15 years I have called tropical far north Queensland home. As well as being surrounded by stunning tropical scenery, the tropics contain some unique and diverse architecture - everything from art deco to beach shacks, Queenslander homes and the influences of the different migrant populations that have lived in the region for many decades. It's a true melting pot of deliciousness in architecture! Colourful, vibrant, fun and rich in colour - I aim to bring out the personality of the home/building/caravan and it's occupants. I also do commissions of people's homes, their workplaces and also their caravans!
I primarily work in acrylic, but sometimes use gouache. All paintings are sealed with clear gloss protective varnish.
I hope my works put a smile on people's faces and invoke a sense of fun, happiness and nostalgia.
